The Global Fire Information Management System (GFIMS ) Natural Resources Department (NRD) of the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization and the United Nations Food) integrating remote sensing and geographic information systems to provide locations of hot spots (hot spots ) worldwide for natural resource managers, other stakeholders and the public.

GFIMS shows active fires detected using MODIS active fire locations processed by the MODIS Rapid Response System , using the standard MODIS MOD14/MYD14 fire and thermal anomalies product (Thermal Anomalies Product ). Each location of fire assets represents the center of a pixel of 1 km indicated by the algorithm as containing a fire within the pixel. In the near future, the GFIMS also provide data on the area burned.
